Reply: (edit)Thank you my friend, but only the version 1.73 can help me. I tried with version 1.69 but it cannot create the appropriate unit serial number in the bios. As I understand from the hardware manual too, only version 1.73 can help for T42 and T42p Thinkpad. alti2005 at hotmail dot com. thanks again. Anybody can help??

Reply: (edit)Hi, because I bring it back to the person who sold it to me, when I had trouble with the finger print sensor. So, I don't know what he did (He has a small shop for laptops), but right now, in the BIOS, there are no uuid (only 00000-000….) and no unit serial number (empty field). HMD version 1.72 created the uuid for me, thanks. But when I tried to put the unit serial number that is in the bottom of the laptop, I cannot. The serial number for Thinkpad T42 is 14 characters and version 1.72 of HMD created only 12 characters for me and I lose the two first digits!!. Thank you to help me finish this issue. What is the problem? May be I did not use it correctly or may be only version 1.73 can create serial number with 14 characters and this is what I suspect.

Reply: (edit)Hi, I am the one who sent you the Maint. Disk via your hotmail account. IBM says that v1.71 or later can be used for T40, T41 & T42. The first question I would ask is:
You are not trying to enter the dashes ("-") as part of the System Unit Serial Number? ex.: Computer with Type 2373-311 and S/N 99 -AVxxx You would enter 237331199AVxxx Hope this helps.
