Try simply restarting the laptop to see if that fixes it.
Download the touchpad's driver from the mfg's site and install it.
Go to device manager and delete the touchpad from the list (clear out any corrupted driver), then restart the machine and Windows will reinstall the touchpad with the new driver.
You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
