Hi. I was wondering if the people here could please tell me their opinions on what is the very best nonwidescreen LCD monitor for games. I'm talking about the fastest refresh rates, and most clear, high-resolution picture without any ghosting or image-burning problems, everything. I do not want a widescreen one, though. I just want a regular square one. I'm asking because I'm looking into getting one, just to try it out if nothing else, and I want to get the very best one I can. Money is no object at this point.
I'm interested in as many opinions as possible so I can weigh what everyone says to help me make a decision. However, I am not interested in getting a widescreen LCD. I can't stress that enough.
....Anyway, I guess that's it.

Not sure if it's the best monitor with price as no object, but the Samsung 915's are pretty darn good.

700:1 contrast ratio, and 8ms response time for just over $300? Can't go wrong with that!
I've sold numerous Samsung LCD's, and even got my wife one. They rock!
"Republicans in Congress are moving to ratify a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning, thus ending the Iraq insurgency."

We have enough 19+ Dell LCD's to recommend against them Chris. I have seen some decent Viewsonic's on campus in use for intense molecular photo analysis however. I did not spend a ton of time eval'ing the monitor at the time I was working on any of the machines though.
So even though I remember being rather impressed with the display, I can't vouch for it being the best of the best. And yes, same with our Vet Molec. Bio dept. - money is often no object there either.
Good luck in your quest, and if I hear anything or see any incredible setups I'll post back and let you know. Have you read through a bunch of googled reviews and/or comparisons of upper level displays? That is where I'd start.
Chuck
right there with ya for not wanting a wide-screen version.

Athlon 64 3200
Abit An8
OCZ EL PE Rev2 DDR400
X800PRO flash to 800XT PE

I have a Viewsonic VG171 which is now 3years old, and still the best LCD I have ever seen.
Be certain you have analog and digital as the dvi is what makes the difference in quality!

Hi again, and thank you to everyone who responded. Sorry about my ignorance on this subject, but I'm not all that familiar with the different stats of an LCD monitor and what they mean. ¿What exactly is the contrast ratio? Also, Rich Mentzel said, "Be certain you have analog and digital as the DVI is what makes the difference in quality.". ¿Analog and digital what? ¿And what's DVI?
Sorry for asking what to you all is probably stupid questions, but like I said, I just don't know much at all when it comes to LCDs. If someone could please fill me in, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Oh, and yes, Chuck, to answer your question, I am looking around on Google to try to find the best LCD, but I wanted to ask on here too.
