Hi,
soon will be making the jump from a 17" CRT monitor to a 19" LCD TFT.

was wondering what brands of TFT LCD are the better ones to go for. have heard that Samsung is one of the best.

have noticed that 8ms response time seems to be the norm. would this be correct ?

the max $$ i can afford is about $420Aussie (about $US310)

thanks for your help.

I just got a 19" LG Widescreen monitor for $225 at BestBuy. 5MS response time and 2000:1 contrast. Looks great so far!

It's always better to go for the lowest response time.Anything below 12ms should be fine. Else you would see ghosting while gaming.
