Any 3.5 floppy drive will do. It doesn't have to be one specifically designed for the Tandy 1000 TX.

I believe you could even fit a modern 1.4 Mb floppy drive and with the right DOS commands format a 1.4 Mb floppy disk.

Unable to boot up system because I need the FDD; HDD had been wiped and needs to be formatted.

So install a 1.4 Mb floppy drive. It will still read a 720Kb floppy disk.

If I remember correctly the Tandy 1000 came with a floppy drive that had drive select jumpers. If so, you will need to change the floppy cable for one that has the twist in it between the two drive connectors.

Tried a 1.44 with another cable with a twist...still nothing. Drives powers up and spins when loading but won't read after BIOS is loaded.

Have you tried changing the plugs round on the cable. With these cbles there are four different way of plugging them in, but only one of them is right. Drive A: is the plug on the end of the cable. Drive B: is the middle plug.
