My system won't boot up. When I turn it on all the fans go but that is it, it will just sit there with the fans going but it won't boot up. This has been something that has been gradually getting worse over the past few months. Meaning that when this has happened before I would shut power off to the computer and then when I started it up again it would boot up. Then it got worse and worse where it would take 10/15/30 minutes of restarts before it finally booted. So I just kept the computer on, for 3 weeks straight. Then the other night I turned it off. The next day when I went to start it wouldn’t boot up. The fans come on but no beep and no boot. After about 1.5 hours of trying I gave in and called tech support. Since I was over my warranty I paid $50 for it. He had me take out my video card and put it back in. Didn’t work. So he had me take out my memory and put it back in. This time it worked and I thought problem solved! So I get off the phone and later that night I turn it off and try to start it 10 min later. Wouldn’t boot!! So I took off the side and took out and put back in the memory, made sure both sides were attached and it was all the way in. It booted it up and worked. But unfortunately the next time I turned it off and tried to turn it on again it wouldn’t work again. The fans come on and even the CDROM drive spins for a bit but no boot up. So what can be wrong with my computer and how would I go about fixing it? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Matt..
You may have bad ram.
Pull out both your sticks of memory; insert one (1) only and power up. If you boot, and your unit keeps booting, you found your problem: the other stick of ram is bad. Obviously if the system crashes, pull that stick out and substitute the other.

If that's not it, then you have to go to basics. Disconnect the power plugs from your harddrives, CDROMS, DVDs, and floppy drive (you don't have to physically remove them). If you have a modem card or any peripheral cards, remove them from out of the unit.
Leave ONLY your video card, one stick of memory, and your CPU and heatsink/fan.
Now try to boot. If you still have the same problem, then substitute, 1x1 each of the items until you post. Whatever item you last substituted is your problem. I don't think your problem is your CPU, usually if they fail nothing works.

However, if you get post to the BIOS screen regularly, then it's one of the hardware itmes you disconnected in the unit causing your probs. Reattach them 1x1 until you start crashing again, and you found your problem.
