OS: XP Home (Upgrade)
CPU/Ram: Athlon 1.1Ghz 256MB RAM

Other System details:
MOBO - ASUS A7V Jumper Free PC133/VC133 200 MHz FSB AGP Pro/4X Socket A Motherboard
VIA Apollo KT133 Chipset

Am looking to upgrade my system. In general used for Photo editing, Office, Internet and a couple of games (PGA Golf & Ch'ship Manager). My thoughts were to look at memory, initially going to get an additional 512MB. Am I going to notice a big difference on performance, and would another 512MB improve again.

I'm not going to get away with a new system before anyone suggests!!

Thanks in advance

Stewart

Get a Video card upgrade. You didnt mention the one you have but get a Radeon 9000 or a Geforce 4 should be fine. Preferably no less than 64 MB DDR.

Adding more RAM is the least expensive upgrade. You might start with that, but unless you're getting memory-related errors, or your current memory is being fully utilized, you may not notice a difference.

Depending on the card you currently have, a graphics card upgrade could make a noticable or even dramatic difference.

Best Luck,
Bob

Will check later (I'm at work) but I'm sure it's a 64MB GeForce II GTS I've got at the moment.

Memory is a cheap upgrade and for photos I'm using 1024MB and Adobe Photoshop. It really makes a huge difference over 256MB.
