Just saying your CPU goes up to 85/95% by itself is pretty meaningless. You have to look at which processes are using the CPU and then make a judgement from there.

My CPU is running at 99% nearly all the time but then I am running a Grid Computing application so it is expected, System Idle Process never gets a look in.

In case you dont know, System Idle Process will always show high percentage most of the time. It is what the CPU does when its got nothing else to do.

Stuart

well my system idle process shows 0 to 1% when the cpu is idle. i dont think we are thinking about the same thing, i dont have a problem with the cpu usage staying that way all the time. i want to be able to do all that i want to do whenever i want without bottlenecking my cpu so to speak. thanks anyway,,anybody got any ideas

Regardless, the same thing applies. You need to look at what is using the CPU.

If System Idle Process shows 0 to 1% when the computer is idle then there is something wrong. You need to look at what is using the CPU. In my case I know what is using the CPU. In your case it could be a virus,Trojan or some other malware.

"my system idle process shows 0 to 1% when the cpu is idle"

System Idle Process should show close to 99% at idle. Scroll down the list & see what's using the CPU, or click on "CPU" at the top of the column to sort the processes. As Stuart said, it may be a virus or malware. Have you run a virus or spyware scan lately? Do you use CCleaner? Have run run MSCONFIG to examine the startup list?

im sorry, the system idle process is 99%. i have no viruses or trojans.. my thoughts are with like i said before when im doing more tasks at once and i think im bottlenecking the cpu. maybe i just need a bigger and faster cpu. ive got plenty of ram. it could be that the more stuff im trying to do at one time is more than the 2.8p4 can do. im not sure

Back up a little bit. Did this just recently become a problem? Give us an idea of tasks you're doing at the same time. BTW, it appears you have HT enabled, did you try disabling it?
