The cd key should be on a label which is attached to the computer case...

Being a compaq unit it should be stuck on the side or tha back of the outside case...

If you wish to install xp you will need to do 1 of the two things.

Run the xp install and choose the upgrade option, but I would strongly advise against that procedure...

The best way is to save all the data you cant afford to loose, and wipe the entire drive clean and than reformat in NTFS and install XP from scratch....Refered to as a clean install...

If you do an XP install, you will have the option of upgrading or repartitioning and doing a clean install.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

Make sure you setv the bios to boot from CDRom first, then make sure to delete ALL partitions, then make a new partition and format the drive in NTFS. That is ALL done with the win XP installation CD.
I hope there is at least 256MB Ram, because that is the minimum it will take to run XP properly. Any less and you'll have a really slow PC with lots of freezes and lockups

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
