err what do you mean it can only handle 32 Mb, if it can only handle that then by definition it cannot handle 64 !. Ignoring that for the moment you may need two identical RAM cards, you may also need to alter a setting in the BIOS to read from both memory banks. It is highly unusual if you cannot put in more RAM

All information i can find says this laptop has a Max of 32Mb of ram. if i installed 64Mb's and the system can only handle 32 then wouldnt it only use 32mbs of it? if so then once in windows isint there a way to have windows see the other 32mb?

What would be the point of installing 64MB then?

My guess is you may already have 32MB installed...with 8MB being used by the video?

Why not post the make/model number of the laptop?

We need to know the make and model before we can comment any further.

Some old laptops/notebooks have some ram built into the mboard, and also have a ram slot or two in which you can install more - some have only the ram slot(s).
e.g. some old Compaq Presario models have 16mb onboard, and you can add up to 32mb more in a ram slot, for a max total of 48mb -they first came out when Win 3.1 or 3.11 was OS of the day - with the maximum ram they will run Win 95 poorly, crawl along at a snails pace in Win 98/98SE/ME, and be essentially useless in Win 2000 or XP, if they run at all.
It is mostly the chipset on the mboard that determines which ram modules you can use and their maximum size. You can't install a ram module larger than the maximum size recognized by the chipset and magically have the larger size be recognized. Installing a 64mb module in a ram slot on a mboard that has a chipset that can only recognize 32mb in one slot may result in 32mb being seen, or if the chips on the module are not recognized properly by the mboard chipset, some other amount less than 32mb such as 16mb, or the ram may not be recognized at all, and the computer may not even boot with it installed.

The laptop is a Canon INNOVA BOOK 350CD, it has no built in ram, it has 2x 72pin SO-DIMM slots in witch i have a 8Mb and a 16Mb cards installed. The video ram is built in and is 1Mb.

"What would be the point of installing 64MB then?"

wouldnt there be a hack to make windows see the other 32mb?

I am currently running this laptop with a AMD 133Mhz 486 CPU, 24Mb ram, 4.3Gb IBM HD, and Windows 98. it works surprizingly fast on FREE Juno Dial-up.

If you need more informataion let me know.

"wouldnt there be a hack to make windows see the other 32mb"

It the machine cannot see it in BIOS, what Windows does is irrelevant.

Hi, It's not going to be windows that can use more memory it's the hardware memory controller and address lines. Not like Win's problem with 98.
