system hangs,taskmanager is gone

Specs: Windows server 2K3 SP2
Iam using win ser 2k3 stn edt SP2.I have a wierd problem while i am wrkin and open some application my machine hangs.At that time my task bar becomes unresponsive and i am unable to open task manager.While i can move to other app by using Alt+TAb,peculiar thingh is that refresh works properly at that time.I had my system formatted two times i have symentec antivirus which discovers no infection.Plzzzzz help me out

Zillions of software problems can cause problems like yours.
If you have any other symptoms, the more you supply the details about, the better.

It could also be caused by a hardware problem.

See the part starting.....
Something else may be wrong.

- you can have all sorts of problems if the partition Windows is on, which is usually C, does not have enough free space on it - what's the size of your partition (logical drive) Windows is on, and how much free space is on it??

- if your computer is a desktop computer....
Failing power supplies are common and can cause your symptoms.
Check your PS.
