System Hangs after POST with New Graphics Car

Pny / 6200
November 10, 2009 at 08:38:09
Specs: Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
I am attempting to install a PNY NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6200 256MB AGP card (requires AGP 2.0 or higher compliance) on an MSI K7t266-pro2 RU MB with an AGP 2.0 compliant slot.

The card is recognized during POST but after (during a normal boot attempt), as windows begins to load, the monitor would go black except for:
- a blinking cursor in the top left corner;
- the letter "C" blocked in red rectangle & located several lines lower relative to the blinking cursor but 3/4 of the way toward the right side of the screen.

If I attempted to boot via Safe Mode, I get the same result however I can see that the failure occurs after the point where mup.sys is loaded (mup.sys is the last thing to load successfully before the boot hangs).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

You have to enter the BIOS, disable the onboard video & change the "initial display 1st" to AGP. And you should have gotten a better card than the 6200.

Re: Jam's Post

The MB doesn't have integrated / onboard video and the bios was / is set for AGP. I purchased the low end card because the system is old and I didn't need a high end card / I'm not a gamer. The MB won't support anything too modern / high end (it may not even support the card I'm trying now) Trying to spend as little money as possible.
