Here's my dilema:
I built my new computer - once I got it up and running, everything seemed to be fine. However, yesterday, it decided to start booting only immediately after I had reset the CMOS with the jumper. So, if I haven't reset the CMOS, then it won't go anywhere, no video signal, no POST, no nothing. Fans will spin and all that, but nothing else will happen. If I have just reset the CMOS, it boots normally.
This makes no sense to me. I don't see what could change between two boots with the exact same bios settings. And sense I've started having problems, it will only ever boot once without another CMOS reset. I suppose it's usable, but a tad awkward. Thanks for any help.
Here's my system:
AMD64 3200+
DFI Lanparty ultra-d
1 Gig Corsair XMS
160 Gig Samsung SATA
right now, bios revision 331 (beta), but problem started on rev 310
MSI 6600GT

How about your PSU specs?
Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ @ 8 x 210MHz
512MB PC3200
Asus Ti4800SE 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro

I don't know if this will help but after clearing the CMOS you should enter the BIOS to correct any improper settings and save the changes. The date and time will need changing for sure. Most BIOS settings allow for the BIOS and/or the OS to configure hardware. If the BIOS configuration allows a reboot but when something gets FUBARED after entering windows that MAY indicate that you don't want windows and the BIOS to both configure the hardware. Enter the BIOS after you clear it but before you boot to Windows. Look for a setting that says something like PnP (plug and play) aware OS. If this setting is enabled by default after the clear CMOS then try disabling it. Conversly, if it is disabled by default, try enabling.

My PSU:
Seasonic S12 380W
380 (S12-380):* +3.3V: 22A / +5.0V: 21A
* +3.3V & +5.5V Combined: 130W
* +12V1: 10A / +12V2: 15A
* Total: 380W
I know it's a little on the low side, but it ran perfectly fine with that PSU before. Just recently has it started doing this.I can't boot even into BIOS if i haven't just reset the CMOS.
I've tried flashing the BIOS and reseting the CMOS via the jumper. Does removing the battery do anything different from switching the jumper?
I couldn't find any settings like "PnP aware os.
I checked the voltage on the battery - it's fine.
Thanks, and any other ideas are certainly welcome. I'm stumped.

1. pull power
2. pull battery
3. clear cmos jumper for minimum of 30-60 seconds
4. replace cmos jumper to normal position
5. replace battery
6. replace power
7. boot to bios and load optimized defaults
8. save and exit
9. boot back to bios and now you can change settings to your liking.

Yeah, well, I'm feeling a bit stupid right about now. As it turns out, my biggest problem was that I'm an idiot. My second biggest problem was that I was clearing the CMOS with the power still running to the mobo. Oops. As it turns out, it makes a difference. Once I actually cleared it right, it booted up ok, those I had to change bios versions again.
Thanks for your help everybody. I'm up and running again.

i beleive you only had that problem becuase your mobo had "cmos reloaded". glad to see your up and running.
