CPU/Ram: 1.1GHz Athlon / 512Mbs SD

If I swithch my motherboard and cpu should I reinstall WinXP?

Good question, I wouldn't think so as I think that XP would just simply be able to detect the changed settings, but maybe you do. I'm looking forward to an answer for that myself.

pippo, the link you sent me too said that you could do it without complete reinstall but it would double the registry size, so they recommended a clean install. could you run a registry cleaner/maintenance utility to remove old unused registry entries?

Netskimmer I just went through a simlar situation. I upgrade cpu, memory and motherboard. Took my hard drive with Win xp and installed it into the system. The computer would not boot up. I had no choice but to reformat hard disk and reinstall windows xp. Make sure you create a back up if you have important information you don't want to lose.

you dont have install windows xp again if the motherboard your changing has the same chipset, xp will just detect the new hardware of the mobo. i just did this 3 days ago and the computer is working great. just make sure you install the drivers that came with the mobo.
