Hi,

I currently have a dell dimension 3100 and I'd like to change the motherboard for one that has a pci-e x16 slot but i'm happy with the CPU unit in my current motherboard. Can I take the CPU from my current motherboard and out it in to a new motherboard?

As long as the new mobo supports your current CPU, yes

Thanks !!

Any advice anyone can offer on what i'd need to know to buy the right motherboard for my CPU and how I'd go about finding this out would be greatly appreciated.

And of course some idea of how I actually remove the CPU would be helpful too.

Thanks

A Celeron D 2.6 ghz might be the bottleneck in a new computer with a PCIe slot.
