I got a call the other day from my sister. She said that her son unplugged the mouse from the USB port and plugged in a game paddle. He restarted the system and it will not boot up. The only thing they get is the post screen. It doesn't show the boot devices only the cpu, bios version and "hit delete to enter setup" and that is as far as it will go. The keyboard and mouse will not work with it but they do work on another system they have there. The mouse and gamepad switching was done while XP was on the son's desktop. He never said why he restarted. I told them to reset the BIOS over the phone and stayed with them step by step. I had them unplug the psu, open the side, look for the jumper marked "JP1" under the video card and pull it from jp1 & jp2 and put it on jp2 & jp3, count for approx. 3 seconds and then put it back on jp1 & jp2. This didn't work so I had them pull the battery and then reset the jumper and it still didn't work. I've run out of things to try. My conclusion is the board went bad but I don't want to have them replace it if it's not the problem.
This is the system specs:

MS Keyboard & Wireless Mouse
DVD, CDR & FloppyI'm sorry that this post seems long but I just wanted to explain the best that I could.

Have they tried disconnecting all USB devices & using a PS/2 keyboard & mouse?

Hi Jam. The keyboard is already a ps/2 but the mouse was a usb. I haven't tried disconnecting all usb's though. As soon as I can I will call them and give it a try. Thanks

Jam I just wanted to Thank You for your help. I called her and had her take out all the cards but the video. She started it up and it worked like it should of. I then had her put them in one at a time with a start up and shut down in between. Thanks again because I was not looking forward to replacing the mobo. I just thought you would like to know.
