CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon 1.09 Ghz / 1.0
Model/Manufacturer: A7N8X Delxue

Please help. This is my first time swapping something as sensitive as a CPU. My motherboard is an A7N8X Deluxe PCB2.0 and I flashed the BIOS to 1008-D. When I put in the new chip (Barton AMD XP 3000 - 333MHz), the fan runs, lights on the board are active, but the monitor is black and the LED on the monitor just flashes (i.e. like when the power to the board is off). Can anyone help as to what could be the problem? Is it a bad CPU chip? do I need a different BIOS (the ASUS home page leads me to believe that the board supports the chip, but you never now)...please help.

Put in the old chip and see if it works.

Might have to reset the bios to default or failsafe to get the new processor to work.

Be sure you didn't leave and jumper set.

Be sure you didn't break anything in the process. Small wire lan's and smc packs are very easy to damage.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

i dont know if a7n8x has this feature, but i had a7v8x (via chips instead of nforce). It had speaking post feature. plug speakers into usual green socket, turn volume up a lot, and when post fails a womans voice tells you what's wrong 'system failed memory test' etc.
Now, most people would say how can sound come through the green sound socket if sound drivers have not loaded - BUT it did do this. It was called ASUS post reporter, it might not have been on all versions, I had the deluxe version of the mobo with every feature (firewire/sata etc)

Thanks for all the suggestions....

I am running the old chip in the computer as we speak....The video card and ram don't seem to be the issue, as I am running with them now...The a7n8x has the voice post as well, but it doesn't even get to post...so no post beeps? I will try and reset the bios to default to see if that will do the trick...until then, any other suggestions?

re voice post, mine would still speak even if it did get get to post. mine went wrong and would not detect ram and spoke 'System failed memory test' and would do this even with no ram there, the handbook also show it gives other messages like NO CPU INSTALLED or SYSTEM FAILED CPU TEST, so it is clever enough to give these messages on very major problems like this .
But I did have to have the speaker volume turned right up to hear it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. If I started the system without the CPU, the voice Post would repeat "No CPU Installed" over and over again...with the Barton 3000....nothing, and the volume was cranked...so, I tried re-seating the ram. (both sticks), also tried with one stick at a time, and re-seating teh video card. Nothing seemed to work, and same response every time....black screen, no Post...I think the CPU itself is fried, so I am sending it back, getting a replacement, hopefully this next one works....so thats all on this little problem...
