I lost many components in the past due to power surges/fluctuations and Power supply failures. Is there a way or device to prevent/protect?

surge protector

.. all you can do to protect against PSU failures themselves would be to use good quality units

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

A good UPS will provide upside surge protection as well as continually supply proper power when there is downside excursion in the voltage (brown out). If you use your power supply close to rated capacity, then there is a greater chance of the power to drop out of tolerance if there is changes in the input. If you are in an area with a lot of lightning then the life of any surge protector is limited.

Yes a surge protector is what you want. I would buy one that has a back up powersource as well that last's 15 minutes. I swear by these puppies and most have a warranty so if your unit does get fried it will cover the damage.
