Comment:

Further to postings last March 2006 finally obtained a Seagate ST01 SCSI HD controller card and attached to it an IBM WDS-380S Type A 80MB HDD. I formatted the HDD on a DOS 6.2 machine and ran Scan Disk to ensure it was okay.
On booting up Nan Tan after the ram count the screen displays
"Seagate SCSI Bios Rev 3.0.0 Copyright 1988
No SCSI Drives Found"
The machine continues to boot off the floppy and loads DOS 3.3.
Trying fdisk it says " No Fixed Disk Present "
The HDD is set to ID 6 and there are three 20mm long jumpers on the back of the drive which I presume are the terminators.
Hitachi site is scant on details for the HDD.
Two questions please
(1)Googling around it seems the ST01 only supported certain HDD's but I cannot locate a list. Anyone have the list ?
(2)Apparently Seagate had a set up utility for attaching HDD's to the ST01. Anyone have a copy ?
Appreciate any support to get a HD installed on Nan Tan with DOS 3.3

You can take a look at the installation manual for the card on Seagates FTP site:

ftp://ftp.seagate.com/pub/techsuppt/controllers/

It looks like you may need a file called 'installr.exe'. I didn't see it on there and a google search didn't find a download. But you might want to take a look at driverguide.com. The file will probably be zipped with the other two files and may not show by itself.

Davincaps. thanks for that link, a great source of info. Wonder why when a search is done on the Seagate site they do not include the ftp site in their search results.
As per the instruction sheet, I set up the jumpers on the ST01 and on six different "N" Seagate drives ( all under 1gb and SCSI ) I tried. None of the drives I had were the PR type.
I kept getting at boot up

SEAGATE SCSI BIOS Rev 3.0.0
No SCSI Drive Found

On trying the seventh drive I got

SEAGATE SCSI BIOS Rev 3.0.0
SCSI Host Adapter Failure

Retried some of the previous 6 drives but got the host failure notice.
Booted with the ST01 and no drives and got the host failure notice. Same failure notice in different slots on the MB.

I guess the ST01 has died due to the constantant rebooting and searching for HD's.
Pity, as it took me 6 weeks to get the ST01.
You agree the ST01 is dead ?
Thanks

Unless it's a jumper problem it does sound like the card is bad. I don't have much experience using those cards. I may have one or two of them around here somewhere. I'll look around in the next few days and see if I can find anything.
