Comment:

I'm looking to buy a new graphics card for my outdated computer, (NetVista, dates back to 2000) only I'm not sure if ANY graphics card will fit, and I'm not willing to pay 150$ or more just to find out it won't work. I know I need a low-profile/half-height graphics card.

My question is, are all graphics cards the same dimentions, and can someone certify that a recent graphics card work with a NetVista?

You need to figure out what slot your graphics card is in. (PCI, AGP, or PCI-Express) You must make sure to buy a card that will fit in your computer. Specifically if you buy an AGP video card, your computer must have an AGP slot. Other than matching the correct card to slot, as long as your computer meets the min. specs of the video card than it should work in your machine. Good luck.

Check out TomsHardware on graphic cards -

Then make sure you get a half-height PCI graphics card, which is an inch or so narrower (lower) than a regular PCI card so it fits.

eBay usuall has them. Examples below.

As long as the NetVista has an AGP slot, these should work.

Good luck.

Most of the NetVista's from that time had an Nvidia 16MB AGP low profile graphics card. You could download Belarc Advisor to make sure. They also range from 145-200watt power supply. So probably a 64MB graphics card would be sufficient.

OOOPS. Im meant an AGP card. But make sure you have an AGP slot. A program like AIDA32 will tell you.

I know I need a PCI card (The AGP card is integrated, there's no actual AGP slot).

Thanks. I've spent several months recovering info and looking for good places to find graphics cards. I think I'll finally run Rise of Nations without so much lag. :P (I actually have RoN, but it's so laggy I don't play it.)

Make sure you check on disabling your onboard graphics before you end up posting back.I think you can do this in control panel instead of bios. You would go to device manager.double click on display adaptors-Double click on your onboard video-Under device usage-Do not use this device{disable).I saw an earlier post where the person disabled video in bios rebooted and was ready to install the O/S but, had a blank screen.

Those are proprietary models and mountings. You won't be able to just go to Best Buy and get one either. It is what it is.
