Stuck on Screen

Specs: Windows XP
After turning on my computer, the manufacture's logo displays on the monitor for several minutes. Suspecting my computer might be frozen, I turn it off. Three minutes later I turn on the computer and the same problem arises. What might be wrong?

Sounds like hardware. Could be lots of things....bad hard drive, defective ram or ram not seated in the slot properly, defective video card or onboard video. Could be a malfunctioning motherboard. Does windows even begin to load or does it freezes on the bios logo? Does it give one beep when the bios screen displays? Is it possible it is trying to boot off some other device like a dvd or flash drive? If it stops before even attempting to load windows it is usually a hardware issue or incorrect bios settings. Have you changed any bios settings? To test ram you make a cd from the ISO of "memtest86", to test the hard drive you make a cd from the hard drive makers diagnostic utility available on their website. You could take out a stick or ram and see if it boots up or try reseating the ram modules. The motherboard requires a motherboard tester.
