strange sound

I was given a tower yesterday (Pionex). Has Win98. I took it apart to see if the ram was on both sides of the stick. I put it back, closed up the case. Turned it on, I got a strange beeping sound. Could I have put the memory in backwards. The computer didn't boot up either at that point. Just beeping. Help. You can email me direct with the answer, that's fine.

DIMMS are slotted so it's impossible to put them in backwards. You might have put the memory back in Bank 3 or 4 instead of bank 1 and 2. Also make sure the clips that hold the DIMMS down are locked in place.

Viper, you were correct. i went home checked the memory again, i had not pushed into place all the way on one side. i did, now my system is booting up as it should. one last question, i want to add memory. with the dimm that i have, is it 64mb? it has 8 blocks on each side, woudn't that be 4mb each block, totaling 64? or am i way off base here?
