OS: Windows Server 2003
CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon XP 3000+/ 1GB

Hi guys!

I have a strange problem with a PC.

The PC Configuration is this :

M/B : ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
CPU : AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton
RAM : 1GB (2 modules of 400MHz and one 266Mhz)
Graphics : NVidia FX 5200 AGP
CD/RW : Mitsui ATAPI
HDD : Seagate 200GB SATA

For your information, the motherboard contains a Silicon SATA Controller with two (2) SATA Connectors.

So, I tried to install Windows 2003 at home and when the Setup was ready to give me the choices where to install Windows 2003 (blue screen), the Monitor flicked and gave me the message "Analog Suspend Mode" and the PC was suspended-stuck..-... ??? (the monitor is a new LCD LG monitor with Digital AND Analog connectors)

I took the PC with me at work, and here I have a CRT monitor.Tried again, and I had a SATA problem (couldn't find the SATA Controller).Stoped installation.Removed the SATA disk, inserted an IDE disk.NO PROBLEMS...

Installed Windows 2003 with no problems and made a ghost image from the fresh installation and cloned it to my SATA Disk.

Again no problem..for 3-4 hours the PC was running smoothly...

I took it back home...no problems for 1 hour...

I left it cause I had to eat (loughs!!) and came back to my room to see if everything was allright..

SAME problem... LCD suspended....PC suspended..

I run "ping" command from my other PC...nothing...the PC was off...

I restarted it, worked for a while...same problems..

* The AGP VGA that I'm using was working fine in my older PC.!!!

Can you help me out?

Thank you in advance!!!

Make sure you don't have Standby or Hiberante enabled - they are meant for laptops, not desktops, & can cause all sorts of issues on a desktop machine. Also, double check all your BIOS settings.

Do you have your LCD connected to the DVI or VGA port? Just curious.....

One other unrelated issue is the DDR266 RAM...get rid of it! It's forcing ALL the RAM to run at 133MHz & is hindering overall performance. Depending on which version of the 3000+ you have, the RAM should run at either 166MHz (DDR333) or 200MHz (DDR400). On a socket A system, you should ALWAYS run the CPU & RAM at the same bus speed, so that *may* mean underclocking the DDR400 to DDR333 speed. Your board has a highly tweakable BIOS...take advantage of it!

Jam thank you for your concern!

Ok

1. I dont have Standby or hibernate enabled

2. I'll check BIOS settings and will inform you ASAP

3. I have LG1980, it has one cable split in 2 (DVI and Analog), I have DVI connected to my "gaming" PC and Analog connected to my "Server".

4. I will get rid of DDR266 RAM.

5. It runs right now at 133MHz (I know...) and I want to ask you, is it better 3 modules (266-400-400=133MHz) means 1GB or 2 modules (400-400=400MHz) means 512MB?

I well let you know with detailed briefing..

Thanks again!

If you can answer my questions while I check my PC I would appreciate it...

Sorry for the "double post" but my PC is not starting. The hard disk sounds like it cannot start. It "ticks"...
:(

I think it's the Silicon SATA Controller that has the problem...

I will check it better and tell you..

Sorry again...

Ticking is an indication of a failing HDD. Do you have a diagnostic CD (or floppy) to test your drive?

Yes I have...but the hard drive was working like a charm. For 1 year now..

I am almost sure that the Silicon SATA Controller from ASUS motherboard is faulty..

I can feel it..

I will let you know!

Thanks Jam!

Doubled post ... again... sorry..

but I have to let you know and make you have a clearer image of what is happening..

I checked last night the voltage with PC Prob..

5V = 5V
3V = 2,4V to 2,7V (!!!???)
12V = 11,7V to 11,9V

This is bad... right ?

Also googled for A7N8X-E Deluxe versus NVidia FX 5200. Other users had the same problem !!!

Maybe is the 5200FX ? I guess...

I will have to check the PC working with another VGA...

I will let you know..

Sorry again for the double post...

Guys... I solved the problem...

I checked Voltage with ASUS PC Probe...

The 3.3V indicator was always from 2.6V to 2.7V.. so ? PSU problem!!!

I changed the PSU with a 420W Levicom PSU and everything runs smoooooooth..!!!

Thank you though!
