Hi!
My System used to run without problems for more than 2 years, now i have this strange boot issue...
After Powerup the monitor remains black and the 2 cd/dvd drives seem being checked all the time(LED flashing). 5mins later the system starts without further problems... I've already tried to disconnect the cd/dvd drives, checked RAM(memtest86)/changed it, i've mirrored my system on a new HD...no success :-( As i mentioned before i ran this pc over 2 years without problems and made no changes to the BIOS nor added new HW...Is my mainboard gone?...why does it start nevertheless?

Are both optical drives empty or do they contain media?
If you pull your optical drives out, does it boot normally?
What display adapter do you have?

thanks for replies!
-the drives are both empty. I tried to insert a bootable cd, but it didn't change anything... -i think the power supply is fine and delivers enough power to the system...else it wouldn't start after 5min without problems and stay stable... -got a gforce2mx400

See if it will boot normally with the optical drives pulled.

It sure sounds like an optical drive problem. I've seen it many times where a system will hang up for a long time because of a defective optical drive.

...as i wrote in my first post, i've already started up without the drives, but the problem still persist...so it can't be the drives...

alguitar, I'm sorry I missed that in your original post.
Do you have a USB HDD or memory key hooked up?
Have you tried restoring your BIOS to default?

No prob...and no USB HDD nor memory key attached, i also did a bios reset and changed the battery... I think the closest thing must be some kind of mainboard failure, but i can't figure out why it boots nevertheless...
