Hi people,

Usually I can sort things out for myself, but this one just has me stumped. The past week or so has seen crashes happening on my system a little too often, with even Task Manager becoming "Not Responding" when i tell it to close the offending programs. Anyway, leaving the computer to sort itself out usually works and all of the crashed programs will close after about 5-10 minutes (they appear to be slowed down by dumprep.exe doing its business).

However, after a crash episode earlier, my computer has begun beeping every time an error window appears in a program. For example a trojan scanner program could finish its run and display a window with "Trojan Scanning complete - no trojans found", but when this pops up a sound from the motherboard will beep. It doesn't happen with things like messages being received in MSN IM, just with pop-up messages from programs. It would appear that clicking "End Task" in Task Manager also makes this beeping noise when you close a program.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening, or know how to stop the beeping? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked processor and system temperatures. Are you certain this beeping isn't the selected exit sound setup in your system. I assume you know what I mean and this is a new sound, not the normal exit sound. The crashes and the beeping may well be related. Have you run any adware/spyware removal programs lately. Try Adaware6 I haven't heard of any programs hijacking windows sounds but I suppose its possible. Your machine has some kind of problem. It shouldn't take 10 minutes for a program to close. Sounds like something is tying up all your memory. Run MSconfig and see what is running in the background.
