STOP error problems with hard drive

August 27, 2012 at 22:10:26
Specs: Windows XP Home
I keep getting the blue screen of death. I recently tried turning on an old computer. So, I don't remember if I did anything to cause this. I switched the hard drive into a newer computer. Both computers run Windows XP and I don't have the discs to put the computer in recovery mode. The error messages I get are as follows:

0x00000000 twice.

I only need to fetch a few word documents.

Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Hi Akemii, this may be the cause of your problem.

You cannot install a WXP hard drive into another computer as a master (C:), as the operating system is configured for the hardware on the original pc.

It must be installed as a slave.

Note: if there is already a slave (and you are replacing) , make sure it is removed 'properly' by disconnecting, then booting the pc. Close the pc then install the replacement slave.

You should then be able to copy over the data files you require.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Okay, I figured out the slave drive bit, for the most part. The part I'm having trouble with is that the bsod is still coming up so I connected it wrong I'm assuming? Ive checked and rechecked it with the tutorial I read and it seems to match up. I'm not sure what to do from here. I think I'm leasing up with the ribbon cord. I have a...SATA hard drive I think its called in the new computer so I cant connect the ribbon to both hard drives. Am I understanding that correctly?
