Stop code 0x000000ed on Acer Aspire ZG5 Netbook

Nvidia / Awrdacpi

Specs: Windows XP (unknown version), Intel Atom CPU N270/1GB RAM
Stop: 0x000000ED (0x86345E30, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) unmountable_boot_volume

I am working on an Acer Aspire ZG5 netbook that gets the above stop code while booting. I have no recovery disk for the computer. I have noticed that the date and time in BIOS seems to go off the true date and time. I am not sure if this is a CMOS battery issue (if it possesses one) or part of the boot issue. Any suggestions

Do u have data inside the OS partition? If yes get them in a safe place by using a Linux live disc.
-Make the hdd is connected well
-Run memory test with memtest, if the test come clean
-Using manufacture utility test the hard drive, if the test come clean
-Proceed to repair the OS and if the damage is huge start from scratch (make sure there's no data in OS partition). Find yourself a retail copy of win xp sp3.

0x000000ED = UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME, as you know.
0xC0000006 = STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR, which means the disk is largely dead.

Place drive in an enclosure, and run any / every hard drive repair utility you got. From there, hope your drive recovery software fixed enough of the data errors that you can successfully clone the disk to a new drive. You may need to purchase a recovery disk for the laptop if the clone isn't bootable.

Alternatively, you can mourn the loss of the data, replace the disk, get a system recovery disk, and use it.

Memtest, hdd diagnostic utility, Linux live disc & OS installation or repair can run from USB stick. Also there's option to use USB optical drive.

Re #5

Perhaps it was this phrase in #2
"Find yourself a retail copy of win xp sp3"
