Specs: Windows Vista
My girlfriend and I are trying to build a new computer. These are the brand new parts we have acquired:

AMD Phenom II X6 2.8GHz processor

MSI 890GXM-G65 AMD motherboard

Corsair 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 memory

Antec EarthWatts 750W PSU

We also received some used parts from a friend of ours:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 3.5" HDD

LG Super-Multi DVD-R / CD-RW drive

The hard drive has now been formatted, but previously had Vista on it. So on to the problems. We have configured the Bios to boot from disk to try and install Windows 7. It gets as far as the files copying to RAM and then just starts the Windows startup screen when it crashes and we get this error message:

***STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x0000000000006000, 0x0000000005000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

This happened anytime we tried to do anything, including boot Vista before we formatted the drive. What can we do short of buying a new hard drive?

When does the error occur? When copying files? Before or after?

Is it a seagate's hard drive??Have you run diagnostick on the Hard Disc Drive?

It copies the files, then we see the windows load text but no icon, then the screen blanks and comes back with the stop error.

How do I run a diagnostic?

Make sure your BIOS settings are correct, especially the RAM. Do NOT rely on AUTO settings. Manually enter the RAM info...speed, voltage & timings. Run thru the rest of the settings as well. Then test your RAM with memtest86:

Apparently the problem was an outdated BIOS. We went to the manufacturer's website and got an updated one, flashed it onto the motherboard, and now everything works fine. Thanks for the help!
