I am planning to get a laptop. I will be using it to do CAD graphics work. I cannot find a laptop with stnadalone video memory in my price range. But I saw a sony with 64 mb shared ati mobility RADEON 1GP 345M . Is it better than having a standalone 32mb card? Need your suggestions
Shared just simply means that it will use 64megs of the main system memory. It should not cause any real performance hits for what you are doing and if you are doing CAD work I am sure you are going to get the laptop loaded with memory.
Granted CAD does use and like memory it should not be an issue. I would stick with the 64megs of shared myself.

I think you will regret not spending the bucks and getting at least a 128meg video card in the laptop. Your cad renderings will take alot more time with a 64meg builtin.
I am not sure how many laptop manufactures at the current time offer the 128meg option. I know these folks do though Voodoo but they are not cheap but if you want the fastest damn laptop around there it is.

Rendering isn't performed by the graphics card. If you don't have a lot of RAM in the laptop losing 64mb to graphics will make a big difference.
