I'm copying here from XP forum:

Recently switched to XP from 98SE, and am trying to get a handle on the changes. The other day I installed my Canon N650U scanner using the lastest drivers/software for XP. It seems to be performing all tasks, except when I scan a doc. EG: When I do a preview, the object comes up in the window; however, when I scan an object, it does not come up in the view window. The scanned object does go where I have designated, though (Mail-Save-Copy). The only thing I can find out of whack is the fact that STIMON is not shown as running in C-A-D. It is, however, in C:\Windows\System32. Thanks for any help/ideas you might have

Check to see if it is checked under 'Startup' in Run/msconfig. I keep mine unchecked though and prior to running my scanner, I do a 'Find all Files' for Stimon and when it comes up I double click on the execute file and it will start it up--thus it will be in C-A-D. Then, when done with my project, I 'End Task' on it thus saving on items running in the background.
