This machine is running fine while it is up. If I use "start/shutdown/restart" it boots perfectly. But if I "start/shutdown/shutdown (or hibernate)" when I turn it on the fans run but no POST, beep, nothing but blank screen. However, once I unplug from wall, and try again, boots perfectly. I've tried different hardware profiles with most hardware disabled, but this didn't help because it's not getting to that point. It doesn't seem like this could be anything "major" because I'm having no other problems, including the wireless DSL network.

I would appreciate any ideas on what else to try. Please email and/or post.

Thanks,

Jim

I'm not using a power strip, and result is same no matter which wall receptacle I use. The machine is getting power, i.e. fans power up, but not sure if hard disk is spinning up.

Thanks,

Jim

I have this same problem. Don't know how to fix it yet, but from my knowledge its purely based in bios.

My best guess is something to do with bios loading a set configuration that does not boot video. After unpluging the system it resets it. Only a logicated guess though.
What I do know for some certainty is that its not related to OS. I just added a 2nd harddrive which brought on this problem for me. You might want to think about possible new hardware added.

PS im going to try the power strip idea for s---s and giggles i have another strip to use. if it works i'll let u know.

I recently flashed the BIOS with manufacturers current files, and the problem persisted with old and new BIOS. I think it's more of a power supply thing. It's not getting to the point to boot the OS, so that doesn't appear to be it. My machine is a DeskNote iBuddie-4 (which has an external power supply). I'll let you know if I have any luck finding the problem.

I just swaped my entire power supply and I can assure thats not it. The power bar idea doesnt affect it either. If I couldn't get around it I would be more motivated to fix it, but the fact is my computer still runs fine, minus the problem.

OK, I just got a perfect boot. I don't know if it'll work again but the solution for me was simple.

1. Load fail safe bios
2. Reset
3. Load optimized bios
4. wa la

u could probably skip to #3

good luck
