Reduce the number of items that start with Windows.
Defragment the hard drive.
Check the hard drive for file system errors.
Install more RAM.

If none of that makes any difference, the hard drive may be failing. Test it with the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software:

Hi Thorika,

Pip's first suggestion is good.

Load Task Master (CNTRL + ALT + DEL) and use to identify which process(es) are using lots of cpu for a long time.

Are you using Norton Internet Security?
If so, some of its processes (like ALUPDATE) can slow one down for around 20 miinutes on startup.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

In addition to the above suggestions once you are in Windows go into Device Manager and see if any of the items listed have yellow or red punctuation marks next to them. Post back with results.

If you have Norton installed by guess would be that is what is taking so long. Norton is performing a scan each time you are starting up.

Reload the OS from OEM media and see if it works good again.
