Start up after Power Surge

Specs: Windows XP
We recently had a major power surge that blew light bulbs, destroyed circuit breakers and other stuff caused by an open neutral.

Now the Sony Vaio with Windows XP gets error message at start up "load need DLLs for kernel.

I have tried to recover using the system recovery cd, but still get to the same message. I booted to A: using a boot disk, but was not able to see the c: drive or the cd rom drives.

Hoping the mother board is not cooked. Any help appreciated. Thanks

You can't see C without ntfs drivers.

Boot to a ultimate boot cd and use tests.

An "xp repair" from almost any xp cd should work. Might boot to an xp cd and try sfc.exe /scannow
