May stand alone players will ONLY play some types of disks. Your player, for instance, may only play DVDR- media and you recorded on DVDR+ media.

The older the player the less likely to play all types. Below is a player list with information that may help you if you don't have a manual. Or you can possibly download a manual.

In addition to the above you may need or likely need to finalize the DVD using the standalone recorder before being able to view it on other devices.

If you are trying to use the hard drive
itself from a DVD recorder then the format of
the data on the drive has to be considered.
Many of the systems use some form of embedded
Linux and the data may be stored in a non
standard format.

After rereading the original post I realize I misunderstood the issue.

Have you removed the hard drive from the recorder? If that is the case then you have a number of issues to contend with.

First of all you may be trying to read the drive on a Windows based computer and the OS used in the stand alone recorder is most likely NOT using Windows.

Second, these devices are are required to use some sort of DRM (digital rights management) which would probably not allow viewing even if you were using the correct tools.

In short, you probably can't do what you are trying to do. This is by design.
