Trying to install ST01 plus SCSI drive into 1988 computer and think I stuffed up Seagate host adapter. Hopefully have a replacement coming but on studying up on procedure was given this method.
"the card was in working order, as i have tested the card before it left,
as i didn't have the original TR packs, i used an ibm inline TR pack.

make sure

-the host card is set to id7, and hd is set to id0.
-use c800h SCSI bios address and is not in conflict with other bios
-use TR pack on the card (use inline IBM TR Packs if you have any)

remember you need

Host(TR)---HD-------HD----(TR)
ID7 ID3 ID0
Refer the Complete PC Upgrade And Maintenance guide
Mark Minasi
ISBN 0-89588-840-8
SYBEX
this book cover from 8086 up to 80386 "
Am trying to locate a copy of the book, but in the meantime have been trying to find out what this "TR pack " procedure is.
Would appreciate any links to web links explaining it as I have found zilch.
Thanks

are you trying to get a book, or trying to get your SCSI adapter into the right Bios address?

I did find an ST01 in the garage as well as a couple other Future Domain 8-bit SCSI cards. I don't know if they're good. As I recall I last used them several years ago with some ST225N drives I was checking before trashing them for scrap aluminum. Email me your address and I'll send them. Or I'll email you tomorrow.

TR = terminating resistors. Older SCSI devices need terminators on both ends of the SCSI cable. Either the terminating connector or the resistor packs can be used. Newer devices may have built-in terminators enabled by jumper or active termination that auto-connects as needed.

DAVEINCAPS Thanks, thats great news. Email sent to you with postal details.
wizard-fred. Your reply is great, now I can appreciate more fully how to set up the ST01.My ST01 is the Middle Version on
http://marina.mfarris.com/theref/controllers/layouts/cs_st01.html
The Late Version has three red terminators under 1 where the SCSI HD ribbon cable connects to the ST01.
My Middle Version ST01 hs three sets of holes(8 connection points on each set) below where the ribbon cable plugs in.
It looks like my ST01 is missing the terminators (TR terminating resistors).
Found some 8 pin ones in the Fernel Catalogue code 106-465.

Would these be the right ones ?

Hi, Most SCSI would run without the terminator on a short cable. Most older SCSI cards would grab your computer on boot and offer to set up the drive. If the drive is already set up there would be a key code to get into SCSI setup. Should run with most any address usually except 00 or 07. The card uses one of those. Haven't run one in a long time. Have several cards and drives in the junk box. Try the Card Maker's site for better instructs. Maybe Adaptec? Good Luck, Jim
