My mom spilled coke on my toshiba laptop keyboard over a year ago. We turned it over to let it dry out and haven't turned it on in a year or so. The computer comes on but the keys don't work. Is there any way I can fix this problem? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

You're not the first one that spilled soda on laptop keyboard. Others have done that in the past. See if you can pick up some helpful suggestions from the following thread (we have many more but this one will suffice)

At least you didn't spill Pepsi. Was it diet Coke or regular Coke ?

If you don't want to take it in to a shop, I'll tell you what I would do. I have had good luck with putting keyboards in a dishwasher with light clean and no dry. Then to dry them out I have a fan blow on them for a few days. That has fixed the problems they had. I think it has a pretty good chance of working on a laptop. But I would suggest not testing the laptop for a week or more. If there is any moisture remaining inside the drive, it is likely to fry the laptop.

Hey - I think we all must be missing something. The spill didn't happen today. Not yesterday but - get it - OVER A YEAR AGO.

kerriberry414 - Why are you asking the question NOW?

get a new keyboard.
that one is goosed to say the leased

see the problem with coke is the acid in it can eat the contacts and the sugars can gum the workings up.

so for future reference dont drink or eat near the laptops! spills on laptops can goose the whole thing! on a pc its just a keyboard is gone but a laptop thats the whole thing!

next fix the problem when it occurs! in the case of coke or good old sugary tea wash it with water and dry fast. So in this case quickly turn off and upside down to stop it working in further then remove the keyboard and rise in cold clean water distilled if your really luck. tap water is ok. do this for say 5 minutes you want all the coke washed off then pat dry with a towel. or you could swing it slightly to get the water to work its way out. then dry quickly in a hot enviroment so corrosion dosent set in.

you might not need to wash it if its water or tea or coffie that is without sugar or milk.

but in most cases wash it.
but prevention is better than cure

all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.
google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that repl
