Solved spilled candle wax on laptop Enter key no longer works

March 11, 2013 at 17:42:20
Specs: Windows 7
Hello, can anyone advise me on how to enter information without using the "return" / "enter" button? The enter key is stuck, candle wax got spilled onto the laptop! Lucky for me it still works fine apart from that. Any feedback appreciated. Oh, I don't have a mouse either.

It doesn't have a numeric keypad with a separate enter key?

I guess you need to add an external keyboard or replace the broken one.

While a little intrusive on desktop space, you could still use the On-Screen Keyboard:

Start->All Programs->Accessories->Ease of Access->On-Screen Keyboard

If for some reason it's not installed, there's still another version for download:

"Channeling the spirit of jboy..."

If it becomes a nuisance you can always get another keyboard installed usually around $30 for a keyboard or so, plus install. It's not outrageous.

Hi Peta, herewith some thoughts:-

a) as Dave suggests, you should consider replacing the keyboard.
Inexpensive oem kb's can be found on ebay or amazon
Possibly youtube has a video on how to fit.

b) look under programs/accessories/accessability for the on-screen keyboard

c) google 'simulate enter key' and there may be an answer for you.

Please advise back on what you decide.

It might have helped if you had advised the laptop's make and model.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
