Ok, I just got this new PC right, and it's working great...except for my speakers. The PC's internal speakers are working, but even though I have external speakers plugged in, the sound only comes from the internal speakers. And my speakers are fine, since I get a dial tone when I connect to the net, so...Can someone help?

Ummm corect me if im wrong but dial-tones dont come from the external speaker, so how do you know your external arent broken.

Also have you installed all the neccesary sound drivers that come with your computer.
If you cant find a disk for them, go to device manger and look for the manufacturer and model of the soundcard.

Then download them from the manufacturers website. Also have you tryed all the different ports for speakers???, even try the headphone jack if you have one.

Other than that its all i can reccomend.

Intel P4 3.00GHZ HT 800MHZ FSB
1.5 GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
128MB Radeon 9200SE
80GB 7200RPM SEAGATE BARRACUDA
4 GB Quantum Fireball 5400rpm

Sounds like you have the speakers plugged into the modem rather than the soundcard?

You have 3 speakers in a system.

1. The internal speaker, controlled by the Bios (POST and ERROR beeps).

2. The modem speaker, controlled by the modem (dialing noise).

3. The external speakers controlled by the sound card and drivers.

As NEO123 said, install the sound card drivers.

Hey, I managed to fix the problem. I looked around the Sounds and Multimedia Properties window and changed the Sound Playback device from the sound card itself to modem line playback and replugged the speakers into another port. I couldn't tell you which one, because I just picked on and it started working, but who cares, right? As long as it works...;-)
