Normally the headphone jack has a set of contacts that open up (and disable the speaker output) when you plug in the headphone jack. It appears that the contacts are not making well when the jack it removed. It could be dirt, or possibly the contacts have been bent a little from wear and tear. It's probably a simple fix, 'if' you can get at it.
