Comment:
My speakers were working great, then I tried loading HP driver/software last week onto computer and then the speakers didn't work.

Well, this morning I clicked on a site and I had perfect sound. I tried going back to the site tonight and there is no sound. What is going on?

What device were the HP drivers for?

Emachines computers have a reputation of using el-cheapo power supplies than tend to malfunction or fail a lot more often than average, and when you do fail, they are a lot more likely to damage something else, often the mboard, especially if it's a Bestec PS.
Your PS may be in the early stages of failiure. Check the current voltages in the bios Setup pages when you have no sound - +3.3v, +5v, and +12v are supposed to be within 5 to 10% of their nominal values.
