Speaker Problem

I have a problem with my Altec Lansing set of speakers which includes four satellites and a fairly large subwoofer. The problem occured after my brother played extremely poor quality techno music at a high volume...now when the speakers are turned up (with no sound streaming) you can hear a lot of unsteady static. And also, music sounds quite a bit worse in quality then it used to. I've tried just leaving them off for a while, and it did nothing. Is there anything i can do? Thank you.

I just realized that there's a crackling kinda noise too, and it goes away when i move the mouse, or when the hard drive is loading or anything like that. I have no idea what that means, hopefully someone does.
