I have a creative soundcard with a mini jack SPDIF out connection on the back.
After buying an optical cable (Toslink) with a mini jack Toslink adaptor to enable connection to the mini SPDIF connection on the souncard it became apparent that there was no signal coming from the card.
I have contacted Creative technical support who say that this SPDIF connection does not emmit an optical signal.
So the next logical question to ask Creative was "what sort of cable is supposed to go in that hole"??!!!
The answer..... Well no answer as they don't seem to know!
So if anyone out there has any idea of a cable that will go into a mini jack SPDIF connection (not optical) then please let me (and Creative) know.
Surely someone out there has experienced a simmilar problem?

An SPDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) connector is a digital output as apposed to an analouge one. It can be optical or it can be electrical. If its an RCA type connector it will be eletrical. If its a BNC type connector it will be optical.

BNC connectors are not optical, they are electrical just like the RCA. The optical connector is totally different looking.

Buy a stereo mini jack to mono rca converter then use an rca cable or a digital coaxial cable and you will get your digital signal. All this of course, depends on your software settings, etc. Good luck!
