SoundMax Audio - No Sound

Occasionally, while I'm playing a game (or doing anything else for that matter), my SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio cuts out. Certain sounds still play, although I can't see any pattern in which do and which don't. The problem often corrects itself after a few minutes/hours, but it is annoying. I just tried a song on iTunes, and I could hear the guitar but not the vocals. I've heard somewhere that there could be a conflict between the sound device and my network card (Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller, I think). Restarting usually solves the problem. Thanks in advance.

I agree it sounds like a conflict. Possible solutions include;
1. Check for upgraded drivers to the onboard sound and the network, if you suspect that.
2. Remove the network card and see if you can still get the problem - if not, you have probably guessed right.
3. try the network card in different slots.
4 try disabling both sound and network, then enabling one at a time - first sound then net, & if no go, first net then sound - a matter of allocating resources in a different order.
