Comment:
Recently had the power supply blow on the system and it seemed to take out the on-board soundcard as well. Disabled what remained of the on-board and installed a PCI soundcard. Now, with the card installed I cannot connect to the internet, take the card out and connection's fine. The LAN is on-board and it connects fine to the router (correct ip address etc.) the router gets a link to the ISP but I just get the 'page cannot be displayed' etc. I cannot access the router setup page so the problem is definitely in the system, and removing the soundcard cures it. Anyone any idea what's going on here?

The PSU MAY have damaged more than just the sound.
Check for IRQ conflicts or sharing. Go to Device Manager> highlight Computer> select view> resources by connection> Interrupt request. First, verify the integrated sound does not appear there. Then look at network and sound card to see if they are using the same IRQ.
If the two are sharing move the sound card to a different slot, if possible. If not then boot into the BIOS screens and look for a listing called "Reset Configuration Data". Enable for ONE boot cycle then disable again.
Thanks for reply. I've checked the IRQs - the new soundcard's on its own & the network card is on a different shared one - no conflict errors shown. The on-board sound is definitely disabled & not displayed anywhere in Device Manager.
