Solved Soundbar PA5089E no longer working it blew power sockets out

January 25, 2014 at 11:15:56
Specs: Windows XP
The soundbar was working fine then in the middle of the afternoon the downstairs power sockets blew. On resetting, we found that the soundbar no longer worked. The power light is on, it responds to the remote commands in the sense of on/off or mute flashing but it no longer has any output. We assume therefore that something inside has blown. It is less than 3 months old.

What do you mean "the downstairs power sockets blew"? Do you mean a circuit breaker tripped or a GFI receptacle tripped?

At any rate, either of those conditions was probably caused by a voltage spike. That spike may have damaged the sound bar.

If you are lucky, there may be a fuse. Consult the manual.

Thanks for your kind reply. Yes we have a house fusebox with separate fuses for different areas. The downstairs power sockets were tripped.
I don't think it can be a fuse because the appliance is still showing a power on light.
The manual is the usual laughable stuff from electronics suppliers. About 4 inches thick, comprising about 20 languages. The English part is about 4 pages of which the troubleshooting part suggests such intelligent things as "have you turned it on" or "try turning the volume up". No help to be expected there.

Yes, something inside must have blown. Since it's only three months old it's probably still under warranty. Consider returning it and saying it just stopped working. Best to not mention the power fluctuation.

Otherwise you'll have to open it up and have a look and that would void the warranty.

Thanks for your response. That's kind of what I thought but I was interested to know if an idiot like myself had not known something that others thought was obvious! I will return it as you suggest
