Hi,
Every time I play a mp3 file in Winamp or Wmp It gives a distorted scratching sound, if I click on the visulisations tab and allow them to run at the same time as the file, the sound is crystal clear, this only happens with mp3's, If I play a CD the sound is OK.
I have a soundblaster live 1024 sound card and a Gforce2 MX/MX 400 Graphics card with all updates.

I've had the same problem. For sum reason, if you keep the cpu busy (ie System idle process lower than 70%) the noise does not happen, such as visualizations. I tried everything from reinstalling drivers, winXP and full format of hdd to no avail. Then I tried cleaning out my cpu fan as it was choked in dust and strangely, it went back to normal. Perhaps it's electrical inteference?
