Comment: I'm having a sound issue, My onboard realtek AC97 audio sound has started a crackling noise. At first I thought I had blown a speaker but then I listen via my headset and the same thing. So I disabled it in the bios and booted up a few times then went back and enabled it and that got rid of the problem. But now it's come back again and I'm not sure what to do next.

Reply: (edit)Check all of your speaker wires for any cuts or cracks. Move the wires around while the volume is turned up to see if it causes the crackling sound. Open the case and follow the wires from the headphone jack to your motherboard. Make sure they are plugged into the motherboard all the way. Make sure all of your external speakers are plugged in all the way. Jiggle the plugs, Does that cause the sound? If all else fails you could by a cheap add on sound card and disable the onboard sound.

Reply: (edit)Go to the Control Panel > Sounds and audio devices > Audio tab > Sound Playback > Advanced > Performance, and try tweaking the 'hardware acceleration slider'.
