✔ Best Answer
Buy a new hard disk. Clone the old one. Ditch the old one. Once they become noisy it is usually too late to even save the data.

Good advice, but if you can, do not wait until you have another drive in hand to save the most important data, back it up to an external drive or DVD's immediately. If it works now, it may not in a day or even an hour. Replace it as soon as possible, if you can drive directly to a local computer or office supply store and purchase a new drive, you have the best chance of cloning the drive and making your life much easier. If it is your system drive and you cannot clone it, you will be reinstalling your operating system and everything else if you wait too long. If you purchase a Western Digital drive, you can download a free version of Acronis from them that will make cloning it easy (one drive must be WD's in order to work). Others probably have similar options you can look into as well.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
