One possibility is the switch in the headphone jack that cuts off the speakers. They are a bit fragile and do sometimes break.

It's my internal laptop speakers that are no longer working. Sorry I wasn't clear on that in my question

Yes, I understood what you were saying, cangirl4. The audio in a laptop goes to the headphone jack first, if there isn't a headphone plugged in, it continues on to the built in speakers. When you plug in your headphones, you normally wouldn't want the speakers to be putting out audio, so the signal is prevented from going to them.

The switch that opens up the circuit to the speakers is prone to failure. If it breaks and stays open, you can get headphone audio but no audio from the speakers.

If that's the problem, it will require replacing the headphone jack.

Could that also cause a situation where the speakers continue to work when i plug in my headphone?
