Sound Driver Question

Hello,
I built a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 based system, with a Athlon 3000+, 1.5 MB memory, C-Media 6 channel sound card. My question is regarding the sound card. I have disabled the AC97 on board audio chip via the BIOS. But in my taskbar there is shown my icon for the C-Media soundcard device and the speaker for the on board audio even though I have it disable via the BIOS. Is this suppose to appear (the little speaker), I thought it was suppose to disappear from experience with previous systems I have built. I am not a computer technician just a happy hobbyist. Any help would be appreciated. I checked the device manager and I just see legacy audio drivers in addition to my sound card driver.
